Gerard
here... I'm hanging out with Mikey in New Jersey, relaxing, drinking
coffee, talking comics, and getting ready to take a drive down south
tomorrow. I don't know what states I'm passing through but I know where
I'm heading. Don't worry I've got a the Clockwork Orange audiobook, a
Dr. Pepper air-freshener, and a GPS so I don't get lost. We figured b
now everyone that's a fan of the band might be wondering what we're up
to, what we're planning, so I thought I'd write this letter and fill
you all in.
We're living, decompressing- The Black Parade took
over two years to tour and six months to make so that's a lot of
existing in a fictional world, and we're just extremely happy to live
in a real one for a while. One thing I can let you know is that we're
excited. Genuinely more excited then we have ever been to be in this
band, make some new music. Genuinely more excited then we have ever
been in this band, make some new music. And we have ALL been writing
new material in our own separate worlds... I started a week after I got
home, buying a good rig, an old Jag, and a bunch of pedals- just
searching for the next sound.
Bob is recovering well from his
recent wrist surgery- exceedingly well considering how risky the
procedure can be. We're all really happy that when he picks up the
sticks again he won't be in the intense pain he was in during the last
year of touring. It's going to take him a while to rehabilitate but
know him, he will most likely be playing the drums before the doctor
says it's a good idea. He just loves playing, we all do. Franks on the
road with Leathermouth and Reggie and The Full Effect so you should go
see them and get spit on. I know Leathermouth doesn't have a record out
yet, but Frank gave it to me in Mexico and I can easily say it's my
favorite post-hardcore record of the year, so I know you will at least
enjoy the songs if you don't know the words.
One of the best
parts of the last five months was getting to see Ray get married and
all of us be a part of the wedding. It was beautiful. I'm not sure
where the happy couple is right now but I am sure wherever they are,
they are really enjoying it. I have never seen him happier in my life.
So we made plans to get together soon and make some demos, see where
our heads are at, take it slow. If explosions happen in our heads right
away who knows how soon we could have a record out, we aren't in any
rush but we get just as anxious as you to find out what the next "thing
is going to be.
So that about wraps it up... I'm glad I could
stop by for a chat, I think I will do it more often. I'm writing more
comics, writing more music, and missing my wife right now. Oh, and I
heard a rumor that I died in a car accident. I didn't. xo. g
Im seeing Panic at the disco, cobra starship and the academy is... live soon im stoked as Fuck!! :D Dream come true.. Its on saturday in Auckland. I think i might be leaving thursday or friday and going home sunday..Waah i wanna stay for longerr *sobs* I love it there. I so hope i get to meet the band. Here is a few photos me and my friend took for a Bebo modeling comp. Theme: childs play XD (Btw i didnt choose the theme)
*note* I would never wear all of this in public haha. Was just rolling with the theme..i will you guys know if i won it or not. I think results come out next month.. School has been so shitty. No matter how hard i try, i cant seem to remeber anything im told. So when it comes to tests..im fucked and i always get below average marks in most. Im so fucked off. and my parents expect too much of me, so when they get my next report i am gonna be dooooomed :( Its as if when the teacher speaks it goes through my ear and out the other in a second. Im hopeless atm. Plus exams are coming up. Thats not good at all. i cant keep up lately these days! Have you guys ever heard of a cartoon on Nickalodeon called 'Domo' ? Its fricken hilarious to me X] Here he is..
Okay, calm down My Chemical Romance fans! The word on the street is that MRC are not splitting up and they will record a follow-up to their Top 10, 2006 album, The Black Parade.
It's just not gonna be any time soon though...
"We can't make any more music unless we live," frotnman
Gerard Way told MTV in a recent interview. "When we get a chance, we're
going to get together and do some demos and start rolling. But we're
going to take it slow. I feel like we needed to be away for a while.
People need to kind of miss us because there was a point in the last
two-and-a-half years where you could have seen us at least once a month
if you wanted."
The singer, who tied the knot with Mindless Self Indulgence bassist
Lyn-Z last September, is taking time off to enjoy married life as well
as working on the follow-up to his award winning comic book, The
Umbrella Academy, and he is also busy penning another "top secret"
comic for DC Comics. His brother and MCR bassist Mikey Way is also
working on a comic book, guitarist Frank Iero is taking time off to
have some fun with his side-project Leathermouth, Ray Toro is busy
preparing to wed his long time girlfriend Christa as well as gigging
with his Wezer cover band and drummer Bob Bryar is enjoying some
quality time with his family in his native Chicago.
However, album number four is not far from the band's thoughts.
"I'm already starting to get the ideas and the aesthetics and everything [for the record]," continued Way.
When asked how it'll compare to their previous efforts, he replied: "It's [going to be] very different from The Black Parade."
So, how different is different?
"It's hard to say at this point, but musically, how Black Parade
tapped into the glam, classic rock of Queen and Ziggy Stardust, this
taps into something different - not punk, but maybe in its proto sense.
The aesthetic - it is extremely different, and it is more stripped-down
too."
"It will be more direct, more about life, and have more social
commentary in there," Gerard continues. "That's where it's kind of
heading now. It won't be a 'boohoo' record about 'Oh, we got famous,'
but a commentary on how the world is now."
As previously reported on Kerrang! dot com,
MCR will contribute a cover of Bob Dylan's Desolation Row for an
upcoming film adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel, Watchmen, which
is due out in 2009.
K! faves Paramore have begun work writing material for the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2007's Riot!.
Speaking to US magazine Billboard, guitarist Josh Farro said the new
material is taking a more mellow direction, and they hope to have it
finished for a mid 2009 release.
"The first record [2005's All We Know Is Falling) and Riot! seemed
to stay at the same level," said Farro. "But now we've got some really,
really mellow songs that you'd never expect to hear out of our band.
"But then we've got even heavier songs than we've ever had," he continued. "It's gonna be a little different."

My
Chemical Romance have confirmed that they will be covering a Bob Dylan
song for an upcoming film adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel
Watchmen.
The band, who will be following in the footsteps of fellow rockers
Guns N' Roses who covered Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door in
1992, will be covering Desolation Row from Dylan's 1965 album, Highway
61 Revisited, for the flick.
"My Chemical Romance [are] absolutely awesome," director Zack Snyder told MTV. "And Gerard is a huge fan of Watchmen."
"He's a super-great guy, and an awesome musician," the director
continues. "And so we're trying to work with them right now to put
together possibly a song for the end titles. I've talked with him and
I've heard a little bit of some stuff that's he's [been doing] and it's
pretty freaking cool."
My Chemical Romance will be the only 'modern' band to feature on the film's soundtrack.

Hundreds
of My Chemical Romance fans gathered at London's Marble Arch on May 31
to protest against the mainstream media's coverage of the suicide of
13-year-old rock fan Hannah Bond.
Newspapers - notably the Daily Mail - caused controversy when they
reported that emo was a "suicide cult" after the teen's tragic death,
blaming her suicide and the growing problem of self-harm on 'the emo
cult'.
"We want to set the record straight," says K! reader Anni Smith, who
helped organise Saturday's protest. "My Chemical Romance have gone as
far as calling out the number of a suicide hotline from the stage; they
always fight for us and try to protect us. Now we want to return the
favour."
At midday, a group of 40 fans demonstrated at the newspaper's offices
in Kensington, before hundreds more then gathered at Marble Arch to
protest against the newspaper's sensationalist reporting.
The Daily Mail issued a statement that afternoon in response to the protests:
"The Daily Mail's coverage of the 'Emo' movement has been balanced,
restrained and above all, in the public interest. Genuine concerns were
raised at the inquest earlier this month on 13 year old emo follower
Hannah Bond who had been self-harming and then tragically killed
herself," reads the statement.
"In common with other newspapers we ran an accurate news story
recording the Coroner's remarks and the parents' comments. We also
published two other articles, one of which explained the background to
the Hannah tragedy in calm and un-sensational language.
"The other was a first person opinion piece by a well-known writer,
written from the perspective of a mother concerned for her children. We
have also run two prominent page lead letters from an emo music fan and
from a fan of My Chemical Romance defending their point of view.
"Our music critic admires the music of the band and publicised the
band's UK tour last year. Since this protest was announced a great deal
of misinformation has appeared on the internet, much of which confuses
what the Daily Mail has actually published with the comments of website
readers and 'blogs' over which we have no control and which have
stirred up emotions.
"We note it has been pointed out by others that all this provides
wonderful publicity for Warners and their impending release of My
Chemical Romance's latest album.
"The Daily Mail is a broad church and is always ready to listen to
the views of readers. We do, however, suggest those who want to protest
or comment read everything we have published and act on fact not
rumour."
See our issue of Kerrang! out June 11 for full coverage of the protest.
We
have recently learned of the suicide and tragic loss of Hannah Bond.
We'd like to send our condolences to her family during this time of
mourning. Our hearts and thoughts are with them.
My Chemical Romance are and always have been vocally anti-violence
and anti-suicide. As a band, we have always made it one of our missions
through our actions to provide comfort, support, and solace to our
fans. The message and theme of our album "The Black Parade" is hope and
courage. Our lyrics are about finding the strength to keep living
through pain and hard times. The last song on our album states: "I am
not afraid to keep on living" - a sentiment that embodies the band's
position on hardships we all face as human beings. If you or anyone
that you know have feelings of depression or suicide, we urge you to
find your way and your voice to deal with these feelings positively.
"It's offensive that I am now just 'Mrs Gerard Way'"
In tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine Mindless Self Indulgence bassist Lyn-Z gives her frankest interview ever!
As the bassist for Mindless Self Indulgence, she's avoided being in
the spotlight, but since she married someone who is a regular in the
pages of Kerrang! magazine, it's a different story.
She now finds herself the topic of discussions on messageboards -
envied, admired and hated purely because of the ring on the fourth
finger on her left hand. But all she wants to do is show the world that
women can rock as hard, if not harder, then men.
Here's an extract...
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ATTENTION YOU'RE RECEIVING AS A RESULT OF YOUR MARRIAGE?
"It's infuriating! One of the biggest reasons that I do what I do, is
for other women and for other girls, then suddenly, when I got married,
that was taken away from me. I'm suddenly 'wife of blah blah blah'."
YOU MUST HAVE EXPECTED IT, THOUGH?
"It's shocking that it still exists! I think it sends such a bad
message to girls because it wipes out all the hard work that I did. He
[Way] doesn't want that for me either. The questions are never-ending
and it's disgusting."
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT IT?
"It's fucked up and totally offensive that my name has totally
disappeared and I am now referred to as 'Mrs Gerard Way'. It's fucked
up that little kids want to come to my show to see Gerard standing at
the side of the stage. And I don't want to have anything to do with it.
But I get a lot of positive reactions, too - people saying that I have
inspired them and that feels good. If that stuff wasn't in place, I'd
probably throw it all away."
SO WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
"Every night I sweat, I hurt myself and I don't stop until the job is
done because I want every little girl in the audience to walk away
thinking that it's possible - that they can do this."
My Chemical Romance played the final show of their Black Parade world tour this past Friday (May 9) at legendary New York venue Madison Square Garden.
Closing their set with a rip-roaring rendition of hit single Helena, lead singer Gerard Way used the final moments of their performance to hit out against the right-wing British media who claim the band's music inspired a teenage girl to commit suicide.
Way repeated the line "If we never play another show ever again keep yourself alive" over and over again until he and guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way and drummer Bob Bryar left the stage.
In related news, in an interview with US newspaper, The Detroit News, Way announced that the band will be on a "recording hiatus" for the next twelve months saying that the next My Chemical Romance album "won't be ready until 2009 at least."
Way said he and his band mates will use the time "to really evaluate what the band is, to reshape it yet again" and come back "with completely fresh ears."
The band's new live CD/DVD package, The Black Parade Is Dead, will be released on June 30 according to Amazon. You can view the artwork here.
We have all been anxiously waiting for June 24th. On this day, the DVD/CD entitled "The Black Parade is Dead" hits stores, online outlets, and other avenues. Starting today, you'll be able to preorder said DVD/CD directly from theblackparadeisdead.com . It depicts the final "Black Parade" show in all of its arena-rock glory, live from Mexico City this past Fall.
We also decided to include a video of the intimate show we had at New Jersey's legendary club, Maxwells, this past October. We played one of our very first shows on that stage, and it was amazing to be on it once again. These shows were some of the most memorable and fun we've ever had onstage. The kids at the Mexico City show actually overpowered the PA, and their voices were deafening. The Maxwells show was complete pandemonium, and the video captures the feeling of and old school MCR show, the way it was way back when. I want to apologize for the wait, as we wanted to make sure that it was absolutely perfect for your viewing pleasure.
With the pre-order, you are entitled to 3 DRM-free download of select tracks from the Mexico City show (Mama, Dead, and Welcome to the Black Parade). Inside the special edition, you'll find the DVD tucked inside of a collectible pinewood coffin box with our logo burned into the top. Also, inside, you will receive 1 of 5 Day of The Dead-esque masks we each designed. We had a blast designing them, and hope you have a blast wearing them, (or whatever else you choose to do with them). The special edition also contains a "death certificate of authenticity with our signatures printed on it. This edition if extremely limited, so if you want one, pre-order sooner than later.
We are almost finished with our special intimate theater tour and it's been insane. Some of venues we haven't played in many years, and flood my head with fond memories. It's amazing to be able to share with all of our fans old and new.
We love each and every one of you, and hope you have as much fun watching it as we had making it.
My Chem
were the perfect closers — they name-checked Frances Bean, saying she
was asking what they're gonna be up to in the future. Gerard responded,
"We're gonna take a break for 6 or 7 months, then come back and write a
new record It's gonna sound like a bunch of cowboy songs. And we're going to call it 'A--holes of the Wild West!"
